About Us · The iPhone, US Lifeline Wireless Provider

The Provider That Tells You the Truth First

We are The iPhone, a private US wireless provider built around one idea: people looking for a free government iPhone deserve straight answers, not hype. We offer real phones, real discounts and real prices, all explained up front through the federal Lifeline program, which has helped households afford phone service since 1985.

✓ Private US Lifeline provider ✓ Not a government agency ✓ Straight answers, always
Why We Exist

Built Because the Free-Phone Corner of the Internet Needed an Honest Option

Search for a free iPhone and you will find pages promising the newest flagship phones for $0, programs that ended years ago sold as if they were still open, and prices that only appear after you have handed over your details. The people searching those pages are often the people who can least afford to be misled: families on tight budgets, seniors, students, and anyone trying to stay connected for work, school and healthcare.

We built The iPhone to be the provider we would send our own family to. That means saying plainly which phones are genuinely free, which ones cost money, what the Lifeline discount actually is, and when a program has ended. If a straighter answer costs us a sale, we would rather lose the sale than your trust.

The Program, In Numbers

Numbers We Live By

These are not our numbers. They are the Lifeline program’s own figures, and they are the only ones we will ever quote you.

$9.25 Monthly Lifeline discount on your plan, every month you stay eligible
$34.25 Monthly discount for eligible customers on Tribal lands
135% Of the Federal Poverty Guidelines: the income limit to qualify
1 Lifeline benefit per household, on one service at a time

Full eligibility rules and income tables are on our eligibility page.

How We Work

Our Commitments

Six rules we hold ourselves to on every page of this site. If you ever catch us breaking one, tell us and we will fix it.

We Say ACP Ended, on Every Page

The Affordable Connectivity Program ended on June 1, 2024. Plenty of sites still advertise it. We name the end date wherever the program comes up, so nobody plans around a discount that no longer exists.

We Never Call a Paid Phone Free

Our free phones are the refurbished iPhone 7 and iPhone SE. Newer models are discounted or paid upgrades, and we label them that way. 5G starts at the iPhone 12, and it is never described as free.

Prices Confirmed Before Payment, Always

If a phone or plan would cost you anything, you see the exact figure and confirm it before any payment is taken. No price appears for the first time on a card statement.

Real Program Figures, Checked at the Source

Every discount amount, income limit and program rule on this site is checked against FCC and USAC sources, the agencies that run Lifeline, before we publish it.

Your Data Is Not Sold

Applying for phone service should not turn your personal details into a product. We use the information you give us to handle your application and your service, and we do not sell it.

Mistakes Get Fixed in the Open

If we get a figure or a fact wrong, we correct it right on the page where it appeared, not quietly and not hidden. Accuracy you can check beats confidence you have to take on faith.

Full Transparency

How We Make Money

A provider that will not explain its own revenue is asking you to guess. Here is ours, in full.

Plan Payments

We are a wireless service provider, and our main revenue is the plan you pay for each month, at the price left after your Lifeline discount is applied. That payment is what keeps your line active and our service running.

Optional Upgrades

Some customers choose to pay for a newer iPhone, like the iPhone 12 or 13 with 5G, instead of taking a free refurbished model. That is a choice, never a requirement, and the free route stays free of any pressure to upgrade.

And to be completely clear: there are no hidden activation or shipping surprises. Anything you would ever pay is shown before you confirm. See exactly what plans cost on our plans page.

No Confusion

What We Are, and What We Are Not

What We Are

  • A private Lifeline provider. We supply the phones and the service, and we apply the federal discount to your plan.
  • An iPhone-only specialist. We offer iPhones and nothing else, so the advice on this site goes deep instead of wide.
  • Online and by mail, nationwide. We serve customers in all 50 states and DC, wherever you live.

What We Are Not

  • Not a government agency. Lifeline is a federal program; we are a private company that participates in it.
  • Not part of Apple. We sell and support iPhones, but Apple does not own, run or endorse us.
  • Not a store with walk-in locations. We work online and by mail, which keeps our costs, and your prices, down.
  • Not the ones who approve you. Eligibility is decided by the National Verifier, not by us.
Questions

About The iPhone: FAQs

Are you a government agency?

No. The iPhone is a private wireless service provider. Lifeline is a federal benefit program run by the FCC and USAC, and we participate in it as a provider: we supply the phone and the service, and the program’s discount is applied to your plan. We are not a government agency, and this website is not a government website.

Are you affiliated with Apple?

No. We are not owned, run or endorsed by Apple. We offer iPhones because they are the phones our customers ask for and the phones we know best. iPhone is a trademark of Apple Inc., and all product names on this site belong to their respective owners.

How can the iPhone be free then?

Two things combine. First, the Lifeline program discounts your monthly service by $9.25, or $34.25 on Tribal lands, so staying connected costs far less. Second, our free phones are refurbished iPhone 7 and iPhone SE models, quality-checked devices we can offer at $0 with an approved application. Newer models, including every 5G iPhone starting with the iPhone 12, are paid or discounted upgrades, and we always label them that way.

Who decides if I qualify?

The National Verifier, the federal system run by USAC, decides whether you qualify for Lifeline. We cannot approve or deny an application ourselves. We help you check the rules, gather the right documents and submit your application, and then we provide the phone and service once you are approved.

Where are you located? Do you have stores?

We work online and by mail rather than through stores, and we serve customers in all 50 states and DC. Working this way keeps our overhead low, which is part of how we can offer free refurbished phones and low plan prices. You can apply, manage your service and get help through this website and our support team, wherever you live.

See If You Qualify, With No Obligation

Checking takes about a minute, costs nothing, and commits you to nothing. Straight answers first, decisions second.
